One of my absolute favourite genre of films
to watch is a good romcom. I’m a serious romantic and love it when there is a
happy ending and the girl gets the guy and they ride off together on a white
horse into the sunset.
But over the last week I’ve been mulling
over this quote “ You are responsible for your own happiness” and looking at
the whole fairytale plot line with fresh eyes.
Why is the girl sitting there waiting for
her prince charming to (a) come and save her and (b) do things to make her
happy?
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m still a soppy
romantic but I just think that if you need a hero in your life then you need to
become one.
Stop waiting for something else, someone
else to bring joy into your life. It’s too much of a responsibility to put onto
anyone, be it your friend, boyfriend, husband, family etc.
If you are unhappy or simply need or want
certain things in life then you need to go out and get them yourself. By
waiting for others to do things for your happiness, you are transferring all the
power and responsibility for how you live your life over to them.
Understand that if you really want your
life to be different, you can’t sit there and complain or wait for someone else, you need to realise
that are the only person that can really make the change to your life.
So chase your happiness, get rid of things
that are making you unhappy and take back the power over your life.
Have a fantastic week ahead.
Segun. x
