The Review: Sisley Phyto Lip Twists in Berry & Baby

It's Friday, it's sunny and new to my makeup bag are the gorgeous Sisley Phyto Lip Twists that you might remember me raving about in my Valentines post last week

First of all I absolutely love the fun zebra packaging. It's easy to carry around in your handbag and more importantly is really easy to apply when you are on the go, without you having to worry about a mirror, lining your lips or applying it on precisely as you would with a lipstick. It's also designed like a twistable pencil so there is no need to sharpen it.

The colour pigment is fantastic and easily adaptable to the look you would like to go for, from a wash of colour to an intense pigmented look. This more or less sold it to me as  I have dark pigmented lips as many women of colour do, so I need the product to have quite a bit of pigment in there to really show up on my lips and get the colour payoff.

Motivational Monday: Change your average, change your life

Well known motivational speaker Jim Rohn once famously said "You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with". I came across this quote again recently and started wondering if it was true.

Looking back over my life and some of my biggest achievements, I realised there was quite a big element of truth to it.

One example was in my final year of university. A few major things had happened in my third year which had thrown my grades off by quite a bit, and I suddenly found myself sitting borderline between a 2:1 and 2:2 grade.

Determined to get nothing less than a 2:1, I made a decision there and then to spend all my study time with a couple of people who at that point were only acquaintances but who later on became really good friends.

The reason I picked them was because one of them was set to achieve a 1st and the other person was borderline between a 2:1 and 1st.  I didn't realise it fully at the time but studying with two people who were already doing so much better than I was pushed me beyond my wildest imagination (even if it was  only so I didn't look stupid whilst studying with them!)

Valentine's or a Hot Date Beauty Preparation Guide

Love it or hate it, Valentine's day is around the corner! and whilst I dislike the over commercialisation of it, I do love the idea of taking a day out to show some extra lurveee to those you love. Don't you just love my overuse of the word love in one sentence! :-)

Now I know that we should show the people we care about that we love them everyday, but lets be real, sometimes life gets busy and it's not as easy to do. So I like to think of Valentines day, as an opportunity to  take time out to appreciate the people I care about, from the lovely Mr LPM, my mum, sisters, friends, you my lovely readers and Me.

So whether you are going out on a hot date, are bah humbug about Valentines, or hanging out with some of your friends,  I thought I would share some of my favourite products that I think are great for helping you prepare for any kind of night out .

Diptyque Figuier Candle (here): there is something about candles that creates a lovely ambience and aroma and I love putting one on when I'm getting ready to go out, and this one is one I always reach for. It's woody and figgy (is that even a word)  and smells just like Diptyque's Philosykos perfume which is is one of my favourite perfumes

January Favourites

I can't believe how quickly January has flown past and it's now a few days into February!

So January saw me challenging myself to transform my skin into the skin I have always wanted, which started with me using a new exfoliating brush.  Needless to say, I didn't read the instructions, started off with too high a setting and ended up with a sore and irritated face combined with an angry rash to boot :-(

So I decided to take it back to basics in terms of what was being applied to my face and these first two products absolutely saved it

Motivational Monday: Bad Habits and the Hole in the Sidewalk

Happy Monday to you my lovely LotionPotioners, hope you all had a lovely weekend.

For the last week or so I have been thinking a lot about habits, particularly the habits that we do all the time and don't even think about. Some good (like waking up and brushing our teeth) some not so good (like me getting home and putting my keys in some random "safe place" which means I'm inevitably running around and looking for them just before I leave the house the next morning!

I recently came across a poem by Portia Nelson that talks about a hole in the sidewalk and how being creatures of habit we continue to fall into the same hole even after we become aware of the hole.

When I read the poem I laughed and thought, that's so silly, who does that? and then had that moment of clarity where I realised, oh gosh that's me!!
