Makeup Show LIve 2013

Happy Friday! Hope you’ve had a good week so far

Just over a week ago I attended the Makeup Show Live at the Hilton Metropole in London.

My main reason for attending, was to see celebrity makeup artist AJ Crimson who I have been stalking following for a few years online. So when I heard he was finally coming down from America to showcase his line of foundations and BB creams, this was one show I wasn’t going to miss.

And he didn’t disappoint! His foundations and BB creams are so gorgeous that I literally had to restrain myself and save my wallet from buying too many products. The consistency is beautifully silky and it builds really nicely from the lightest wash of colour to being able to cover a tattoo, but still look like skin. He also gave a talk later on and I was really inspired when I heard his story.  One of the things I took away from what he shared is that when you are following your dream, you need to ensure that you put yourself in the place, position and opportunity to make that happen.

Other highlights of the show included meeting Nikki Taylor who is such an inspiration and wealth of knowledge. With over 26 years in the beauty industry she had worked with companies like Space NK and Bobbi Brown. She has also just launched her own cosmetics and retail consultancy business so watch that space.  The makeup master class by Chanel Boateng  (see more details below) and seeing the Motives makeup up line which now includes a range of darker shade foundations catering to women of colour and is a collaboration between Loren Ridinger and La La Anthony.

The show itself had some great exhibitors, ideas and highlights but I felt that unfortunately the organisation and structure let it down a bit. I’m hoping they will be able to take all the learnings and put them into place for next years show.

Now onto the pictures

Chanel Boateng

I really loved the makeup masterclass on "Black & Asian Skin" by makeup artist Chanel Boateng. It was so well organised and detailed with information on how to find out what your undertone is, skincare tips and a list of recommended products across a variety of brands. Chanel also did a full makeup demonstration on a model showing us various tips from priming to contouring. It was such a fantastic class!

Here is the finished look and a breakdown of what Chanel used. She also had a great Youtube page so please do check her out
