Hey everyone, I hope you all had a lovely
weekend.
I came across this amazing video over the
weekend and it (a) had me in tears and (b) helped me realise a deep truth,
which I will come onto in a little bit.
I found the video to be so completely human
and fragile, where women were asked to describe their features and a complete
stranger was also asked to describe the same woman’s features. An artist then
drew sketches based on both descriptions. There was such a vast difference
between the actual persons description of themselves, which was ultimately
quite harsh and critical versus the objective viewpoint of a strangers.
After watching the video, I realised that
like a lot of the women in the video, I really am my own worst critic and that
I often stand in front of the mirror analysing and focusing on what I believe
to be negative flaws. If however I had a friend stand in front of me and ask me
what I thought of her, would I ever say some of the things I say to myself to
her? The answer is no!
It got me thinking, why is it that I
wouldn’t do that to a friend but I can do it to myself? I believe that it’s
because I absolutely love my friends. I appreciate and accept them for who they
are. I also can look at them objectively and choose to see the best in them, so
unless they highlight a specific flaw to me, I just cant really see it and even
then I never think it’s as bad as they are making it out to be.
I believe that we are all inherently
beautiful in our own individual way so we need to stop being our own worst
critics and instead pick up our pom poms and become our own cheerleader, advocator
and best friend.
Oh and that deep truth I mentioned earlier.
…well, and I say this with complete humility, the truth is that I am beautiful
than I think I am and so are YOU!
So my question for you is this, what is one
thing you are choosing to pick up your pom poms for and celebrate about
yourself today? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks so much Olu, you are so right about words either building up or pulling down. I believe we all need to start building ourselves up with the words that we choose to describe ourselves.
